JOB
SEEKERS
AGAINST
TEMP
AGENCIES

Here
is the scoop on Temp Agencies:
- There
are good ones, there are bad ones. At this point, we do not
have enough feedback to state which ones are good and which
are not. The information below is gathered through speaking
with confidential sources as well as job seekers, who were
disappointed with temp agencies. We encourage the GOOD agencies
to make their statements, either by contacting us by email.
Better yet, please post your opinions on the Scrilla
forum.
- Can
temp agencies be useful? Sure they can. there are many people
that are now employed because of temp agencies. After all,
they operate on commission. They do make scrilla. So this
means that they have to get a cut of someone's wages. Someone
has to work in order to have wages.
- Most
Temp agencies operate on commision (as in SALES). As a job
seeker, you are their COMPETITION.
- They
are the 'middleman' between the job market and job seekers.
This may be interpreted in two major ways: 1. They facilitate
the process of hiring for the employer and landing a job for
the job hunter. 2. They saturate the market and plug all the
ways to get a job on your own.
- They
do this full time, every day, every week, every month, every
year. Can you compete? Been job-hunting lately? How simple
is it to apply somewhere? Ever wonder why there are so many
changes to the application processes, resume formats, etc?
Because the market is flooded with resumes, as well as applicants,
and the need to filter applicants is increasing. Who do you
think holds the key to the filters' door?
- Temp
agencies are on the phone to potental employers constantly.
This is how they sell you, or so they say. Ever seen the note:"No
phone calls please"? Do you think the agencies help in
this situation? As an employer, wouldn't you get sick of people
calling you about the same thing few hundred times a day?
- Ever
seen a list of a Temp agency jobs? It's huge. Ever applied,
followed up the next day (or even the same day), and heard
that the position has been filled, (but the application deadline
is two weeks away? What do you think are the chances of these
adds being valid? What percentage are valid postings? (Oh,
yeah. There is such a thing as prospecting. This means that
the ads are placed for a specific area of expertise. This
is NOT A REAL POSTING. Why you ask? how about this: now Temp
Agency A has a list of 300 candidates for a certain field.
So what? This is similar to web traffic. The greater the traffic,
the more valid and relevant the site appears. So, the temp
agencies are now able to present themselves better, and perhaps
actually try to look for a similar posting down the road.
HOW MANY HOURS PER CANDIDATE WAS SPENT ON A FAKE AD?
- Time
spent at temp agencies can vary. If you just go to sign up
to the agency, not necessarily for a posting, make sure you
have at least an hour. If testing is involved, computer or
otherwise, you can kiss at least half a day goodbye. And this
is PER agency. So, in order to make use of this 'service',
you would have to spend a few weeks just on the agencies.
- Ever
wonder why temp agencies are preferred by large coprorations?
Because you're employed by the temp agency, which does not
guarantee full time employment. This means several things:
the actual employer can let you go whenever; the employer
does not have to worry about unions, benefits, etc.; the employer
has a legal blanket in the form of the temp agency.
- Is
it worth it to pay $XX for a job? Sure, just do your research
and don't let them waste your time.
So,
this is why JOSATA was formed.
Please
spread the word 'n' WARN A BROTHA.
